Nursing homes and MRSA
The handling of MRSA in nursing homes frequently leads, despite clear guidelines, to uncertainties and exaggerated measures. This result is often due to unclear practical protocols and lack of training about MRSA outside of the hospitals. Screening studies in the EUREGIO show that the incidence of MRSA is low in nursing homes. MRSA, which are identified there, belong to the clonal lineages known from the local hospitals.Under the leadership of the public health authorities, the cooperating hospitals and the respective general practitioners, the activities within MRSA-net are focused on intensive information policy, on training of nursing staff and on the consultancy in difficult MRSA cases in nursing homes within the EUREGIO.[top]
